Seasonal Change 2: Spring Hanami

There is a word ‘Hanami’ in Japanese which roughly translates as ‘Appreciation of transient beauty’. This is often applied to the changing seasons and in particular to spring blossom and autumn colour.

Following the darkness of winter months, nothing raises the spirit more than the new growth of plants and trees. Lasting only three or four short weeks, the awakening of spring woodland has an ephemeral beauty with ground covering flowers and new leaf growth.

The following images are an attempt to capture this fleeting fragility together with the deeper narrative of growth and renewal.
