Passing By

The songwriter Bob Dylan once described one of his songs as the experience of walking past a road junction and glancing down the street whilst moving on.

In a similar way, I’ve sometimes thought about the experience of watching strangers pass by on the street and the brevity of this interaction. These images are from a portfolio which attempted to capture some part of that experience.

Technical Details:
These images obviously use camera movement. Rather than the sharp, upward flick of the lens used in the "Impressions" portfolio, I used both ICM and panning here. Again, I used a shutter speed of about 1 second but moved the lens to follow the person.
