Film Noir
I’ve long been a fan of film noir, from the Chandleresque Bogart movies through to modern classics like Blade Runner and Red Road.
It is a style of filmmaking characterized by such elements as emotionally damaged heroes, intricate plots, and an underlying existentialist philosophy with an immediacy of plot overlayering a back story of sadness or grief.
Visually, it is defined by stark lighting effects and dark moody scenes, often set in low indoor light or night- time cityscape. I’ve tried to capture some scenes and characters which fit into that simple visual concept.
